Who We Are

The Lincoln Prosperity Group consists of local residents and interested parties who came together in 2015 to provide a unified voice for how thousands of acres of public lands surrounding the community of Lincoln should be managed.

Lincoln, located along Highway 200 near the crest of the Continental Divide, is surrounded by national forests. The health and vitality of Lincoln are intertwined with how these public lands are managed. For years in the wake of downturns in the mining and logging industries, the community, conservationists and the timber industry disagreed on how best to manage these national forests. The U.S. Forest Service was hamstrung by lawsuits, funding shortfalls, and mismanagement. The land suffered and people suffered. The community of Lincoln, which relied on those forests for jobs, recreation and economic development, felt voiceless.

The Lincoln Prosperity Group came together in an effort to chart a better path forward for our forests. It consists of foresters, outfitters, ranchers, firefighters, recreation interests, conservationists, business leaders and hunters. Together, this group has helped unite the community of Lincoln around a proposal that delivers solutions for sustainable management of public land and water and a bright future for Lincoln’s residents and for the benefit of all Montanans.

Lincoln Prosperity Proposal

Lincoln has a lot to offer locals and visitors alike. It is a gateway community to the Continental Divide Trail, the Blackfoot River and the Scapegoat Wilderness. It has a world-renowned outdoor sculpture park. People come to hunt area big game and fish the Blackfoot River and its tributaries. The Lincoln Prosperity Proposal will expand Lincoln’s recreation opportunities and boost local business while ensuring protection of clean water, habitat, and wide-open spaces. The plan offers management recommendations for 200,000-acres of national forest lands. It consists of three primary parts: Conservation, Forest Restoration and Recreation. Click to find out more.
